Our Story

Most people go inside earlier than they want to.

Not because it got cold, and not because the evening was over. They go in because there is nowhere good to sit. The chair is plastic and slides on the deck. The table is too small for four people and a bowl of something. The one light out there is a floodlight over the back door, pointed at the wrong thing.

Lingerwood is a shop for the other version of that evening — the one where nobody gets up.

What we look for

We buy the pieces that keep people outside, and we leave the rest alone. A sofa deep enough to sink into. A table long enough that somebody can put their elbows on it. Shade for the hour the sun still bites. Enough light to keep talking by, and not one lumen more.

Eight parts of the yard, and everything we sell belongs to one of them:

  • Seating — somewhere to put the evening down
  • Dining Outside — dinner tastes different out here
  • Shade — for the part of the day that bites
  • Fire Pits & Evenings — the reason nobody goes inside
  • After Sundown — light enough to keep talking by
  • Lingering — hammocks, swings, and the long afternoon
  • Underfoot — the rug that makes it a room
  • The Garden — what you look at while you sit there

How we work

We are a small shop. We do not make the furniture ourselves — we choose it, one piece at a time, from makers who already do it well, and we say plainly who made what. Everything ships from the United States.

Two things we would rather tell you before you buy than after:

  • Measure first. The most common reason something comes back is that it never fit — the gate, the stairs, the corner of the deck. Send us the numbers and we will tell you straight whether a piece will make it in.
  • Some things take longer. Delivery is usually 2–7 business days. Bulky furniture goes by freight and can take longer, and a small number of items ship from an overseas warehouse. If that applies to your order, we email you the date rather than let you wonder.
